Amerb moment

I'm totally being serious when I say that I think I may have lost my mind. I've been researching how to open my own restaurant or cafe, yeah in this economy. I've been looking for a job that will help me develop the skills I'll need to manage one. So far I haven't have much luck. My family wants me to go back to my old fast food job, not going to happen. It would be an okay idea if I was trying to stay in my hometown for the rest my life, not going to happen! But I'm trying to be up and out in 6-7 months time. So tomorrow I'm going to a locate cafe that's hiring for all positions. I'm hoping to snag a waitressing job so I can get tips and that type of experience. Going from getting paid every week to getting paid every two weeks isn't going to work since I got plans and three bills.....four if you count this stupid prepaid phone I got.

My mom and I were talking

I recently moved back into my parent's house after finishing an out of state internship. A lot of the whatchamacallits and doodads that I left home where stored in the attic. I was gone a year and I've long forgotten about a lot of the stuff. Well a few days after coming home I was sent up into the attic to pull out some of my old junk. Well I threw out a few old clothes and random crap I'd been holding onto for some reason. I got down a box of books with my two favorite vintage actresses, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. As well as a few Ancient Egyptian books from my high school days. Well since I felt I didn't need them anymore I was going to donate them. But my Mom was like "OMG! You're giving those away? I always thought that you'd end up it Egypt looking at the pyramids. Or something like that."

I never thought she had that much faith in my interest and my hobbies. I've had numberous interest through out my 20 years and as I was staring at my ceiling I thought, "What can I do that can mix my vintage style, ancient egyptian, make up, and fairy tale interests all together into a job or business that could make me some cash. Since I'm totally broke right now.

Madi Gras 2009

This past February my sister and I as well as three others drove from Orlando to New Orleans to attend, Mardi Gras. I was determined to attend Mardi Gras ever since I saw an animated 1920s Mardi Gras from a movie that released a few months back. The trip down there was less than glamorous. Riding in a Mustang with five other people just wasn't the best idea. Well the 641 mile trip could have been worse. But upon arriving to New Orleans I realized that this wasn't like the movie at all! It was so 2010! Where were the bands in colorfully costumes parading up and down Canal street? Where were the "cute" bottlecap tap dancing boys? And where were the diners that were worth eating at? It had completely slipped my mind that New Orleans had be Atlantis for awhile. What? Too soon!? It seemed like my fantasy was replace buy the trash covered streets and the numerous "gentlemen" clubs?
My sister and I went down Bourbon St and I got a lot of beads tossed at me and thrown at me! I'm too pretty to flash! Though I was expecting a whimsical city I got reality. It was a great experience. And I'll definitely go again since I know what to expect now.

In Disney's Defense

There has been alot of mixed reviews with movies that Disney Animation has produced in the last decade or so. I personally doubt it will ever stop. I believe this is still a hot topic which is release of the newest Disney Princess, Tiana. I was still in high school when the movie was first announced, I was one excited 11th grader. The movie went through probably numberous rewrites and changes before it was released in December 2009. The number one rewrite was the plot altogether. She was orginally suppose to be a chamber maid. For those who haven't seen the Disney Princess movies, Snow White and Cinderella both were in the maid catagory. Belle and Mulan were peasants. Snow White, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Aurora and Ariel were actual Princesses. Also they are all based in non-American countries, excluding Pocahontas.

Tiana is the first African-American Princess. If she wasn't American she would have had to be placed in another hugely "black" country or area. How popular would have the Disney's first Congo Princess have been? Alot of follow bloggers and Youtubers say that they came out with Princess Tiana only because of our current Presidents two adorable daughters. Well if thats the case and putting the facts, what if Barack hadn't have won? Since this movie was announced 2006 or 2007 before the elections had even begun either Disney's productionist can see the future or this movie was simply Disney Animation going in a different direction. I think the latter. The main point of this blog is to pretty much defend an aniamated movie. This movie was full of first: first black princess, first cajun firefly, the first interracial couple. I suppose the black population of America wasn't ready for a interracial couple. However as an African-American lady I have zero problem with any type of couple. I feel that African-American women deceived to have a princess since we have stepped up, we raise the kids, work to provide for our families.

I'm not saying every guy, but African-American men still haven't stepped up as much as they need too to become that Disney Prince. So intead Tiana got a racially ambiguous Prince. Prince Naveen isn't black, white or anything no one knows, no one ever will probably. He's whatever you want him to be. Personally he remains me of one of my Turkish co-workers back in 2009. Pretty much it all boils down to a the fact this is a Disney movie, it's not going to do any harm to your little Princesses and Princes if they see it. If anything it'll make them want to work just as hard as Tiana does to get what they want out of life. Is that so bad? Thanks for reading.
